$6.7m community center renovation.


Manhattan-based Stephen Yablon Architect is designing a $6.7 million renovation and reuse of the Dr. Ramon Emeterio Betances Community Center in the Mort Haven section of the South Bronx.

 Housing Authority complex), will be home to the championship-winning amateur Betances Boxing Program. When complete in 2005, the 12,290-square-foot project will join, improve, and reuse existing facilities.

The gymnasium will receive a new facade and interior finishes, and the roof over the boxing area will be raised to a three-story height. On the first floor, meeting and classrooms will form an interior "courtyard" that will overlook the boxing ring on the lower level. Bleachers for 300 spectators and new training and locker rooms are also being added.
