$6.6 MILLION IN PIDA LOANS TO HELP CREATE 970 JOBS

 HARRISBURG, Pa., Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Gov. Robert P. Casey today announced the approval of more than $6.6 million in Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority (PIDA) loans for six companies that are expected to create 970 jobs over the next three years.
 At its monthly meeting, the PIDA board approved loans for projects in Blair, Bucks, Fayette, Montgomery, Westmoreland and Washington counties.
 "Every month, PIDA is helping Pennsylvania businesses obtain the capital they need to modernize and expand during tough economic times," Casey said.
 "This month, PIDA is financing three big projects that will create an average of 287 jobs each. That's good news for Pennsylvania business and even better news for our working men and women," the governor said.
 PIDA loans, awarded at low interest rates, may be used by manufacturers and industrial firms to purchase land and buildings for construction or renovation. Applications are made by local industrial development groups on behalf of industrial borrowers.
 Following are the loans approved today:
 -- Blair County -- $250,000 to H.B. Brown Shoe Co. Inc. for a 20,000-square-foot expansion project at 107 Highland Ave., Martinsburg. The company, which manufacturers men's footwear, is expanding its operations there. The $500,000 project is expected to create 47 jobs.
 -- Bucks County -- $244,000 to Astea International for the acquisition and renovation of an 8,500-square-foot building at 100 Highpointe Drive, Chalfont. The company, which designs and develops computer software, is currently operating at a location adjacent to the site. The $610,000 project is expected to create 30 jobs.
 -- Fayette County -- $1.65 million to Berkley Medical Resources Inc. for the construction of a 145,000-square-foot building at the Fairchance Business Park in Smithfield. The company, which manufactures non-woven cloth for industrial and medical uses, will be the first tenant in the Fairchance Business Park. The $3.5 million project is expected to create 110 jobs.
 -- Montgomery County -- $2 million to I.C.D. Industries Inc./Confab Inc. for the acquisition and renovation of a 641,320-square-foot building at 601 Allendale Road, King of Prussia. The company, which manufactures adult sanitary products, will use the loan to consolidate several nearby operations. The $8.6 million project is expected to create 455 jobs.
 -- Washington County -- $458,392 to Polycom Huntsman Inc. for a 23,700 square-foot expansion project at the Donora Industrial Park. The company, which produces custom-compounded polymers, is expanding its operations at the site. The $1.1 million project is expected to create 32 jobs.
 -- Westmoreland County -- $2 million to Respironics Inc. for construction of a 79,000-square-foot building and expansion of a 31,000- square-foot building at 1001 Murry Ridge Drive in Murrysville. The company, which designs, manufactures and markets respiratory and pulmonary medical products, will use the loan to expand significantly its operations at the site. The $6.1 million project is expected to create 296 jobs.
