$5m project will add second floor to store.


B.R. Fries & Associates has begun work inserting a new second floor level into the 1934 vintage Grand Hall at Century 21's Cortlandt Street Cortlandt Street may refer to:
  • Cortlandt Street (Manhattan)
  • Cortlandt Street-World Trade Center (IRT Broadway-Seventh Avenue Line station)
  • Cortlandt Street (BMT Broadway Line)
 store that will expand selling space by 7,500 s/f.

The $5M project, which is being constructed via a compressed schedule while the store remains in business, is planned for completion early in September.

The Grand Staircase is an immense sequence of sedimentary rock layers that stretch south from Bryce Canyon National Park through Zion National
 and railings with intricate details that complement the existing ornamental ironwork. Stone details throughout the new second floor level match existing marble walls and floors, and walls on opposite sides of the new space will be opened to create entrances into existing "retail wings" on each side of the Grand Hall.

Fries & Associates to advise on and coordinate the complex structural and mechanical engineering details that are necessary to build and insert a full floor that has a large atrium in the center with minimal disruption to the existing space. The atrium will allow our customers to see the merchandise on the second floor and enjoy the attractive retail environment as well."
