$55 MILLION JACKPOT SPURS LOTTO INTEREST.

Byline: Ryan Oliver Staff Writer

WOODLAND HILLS - Sudesh Managoeage said he expects a busy day at his 7-Eleven store on Ventura Boulevard Ventura Boulevard is one of the primary east-west thouroughfares in the San Fernando Valley; as it was originally a part of the El Camino Real (the trail between Spanish missions), Ventura Boulevard is the oldest route in the San Fernando Valley. It was also U.S.  today with the estimated California SuperLotto Plus jackpot reaching $55 million.

``It's getting busier as the jackpot goes up,'' Managoeage said. ``Ninety percent of our customers are buying lottery lottery, scheme for distributing prizes by lot or other method of chance selection to persons who have paid for the opportunity to win. The term is not applicable when lots are drawn without payment by the interested parties to determine some matter, e.g.  tickets.''

Luis Rivera Luis Antonio (Pedraza) Rivera (born January 3, 1964 in Cidra, Puerto Rico) is a former infielder in Major League Baseball, playing mainly as a shortstop for five teams from 1986 through 1998. Rivera batted and threw right handed.  of Woodland Hills, who purchased 10 tickets at a convenience store on Ventura Boulevard, said he doesn't usually buy tickets until the jackpot becomes too big to ignore.

``It's a crapshoot, but you almost feel guilty if you don't buy any,'' Rivera said. ``There's a lot I could do with $55 million.''

California Lottery spokeswoman Cathy Doyle Johnston said the jackpot is the third highest this year and sales are expected to be brisk Brisk as a proper name may refer to:
  • Brest, Belarus (Brest-Litovsk) Brisk (בריסק) is the city's name in Yiddish
  • The Brisk yeshivas and methods, a school of Jewish thought originated by the Soloveitchik family of Brest.
. ``You start getting more of the people who pool their money and play.''

If an individual won tonight's drawing, he or she would receive 26 gradually increasing annual payments, with the first being about $1.375 million, Johnston said.

A single-payout winner would receive $27 million, she said.

California's schools will receive an approximate $33 million boost from ticket sale revenue, she said.

The jackpot is the largest since March, when it reached $87 million.

The $55 million jackpot, however, is still far short of the lottery's record $193 million take on Feb. 16. That money was divided among three winners.

Managoeage said that though his store has been busy, it's nothing like what it was then. He said once a jackpot eclipses $100 million, the store needs another clerk just to handle the increase in customers.

Frank Lokos of Westlake Village said he normally purchases five tickets, but bought 10 on Tuesday because of the hefty heft·y

 jackpot.

If he won, Lokos said, ``I'd probably pay the tuition For tuition fees in the United Kingdom, see .

for the kids and invest some money and give some to charity. I'd also like to help my relatives in Europe.''

June Holden Holden, town (1990 pop. 14,628), Worcester co., central Mass., a residential suburb of Worcester; settled 1723, set off and inc. 1741. Manufactures include electrical and metal products, plastics, and machinery.  of Woodland Hills bought five tickets like she does twice a week every week, but she said she was unaware the jackpot had reached $55 million. Holden said it doesn't really matter to her how big the jackpot is.

``The odds suck,'' she said. ``I think they should give money out to more people and have lower jackpots.''
