$5 MILLION SET FOR VALLEY CONNECTOR HOUSE OKS NEEDED TRANSPORTATION BILL.

Included in a federal transportation bill approved Thursday by the House is $5 million for Santa Clarita's $245 million Cross Valley Connector, a long-planned east-west route across the valley.

Two pieces of the proposed 8.5-mile route already are in place - stretches of Newhall Ranch Road and Golden Valley Road. The connector is designed to link Interstate in·ter·state

 5 with the Antelope Valley Freeway The Antelope Valley Freeway is a freeway in Los Angeles and Kern counties in southern California. It is signed as California State Highway 14 along its length. It connects Greater Los Angeles to the rapidly developing Antelope Valley.  with the goal of easing traffic on local surface streets including Soledad Canyon Soledad Canyon is a long narrow canyon / valley located in Los Angeles County, California between the cities of Palmdale and Santa Clarita. Still to be built is Golden Valley north across the Santa Clara River Santa Clara River may refer to:

The connector eventually will have six lanes - eight in some busy locations - and include bridges, grade-separated crossings and intersections. A fly-over bridge is currently under construction to take Golden Valley across Soledad while passing over the Union Pacific/Metrolink railroad railroad or railway, form of transportation most commonly consisting of steel rails, called tracks, on which freight cars, passenger cars, and other rolling stock are drawn by one locomotive or more.  tracks.

In November, Congress approved the 2005 Omnibus omnibus: see bus.  Appropriations Act that included an additional $5 million for the connector, earmarked for the Soledad-Golden Valley portion.

The bill also includes $2 million to fund car-pool and truck bypass lanes on both sides of the I-5 from the Antelope Valley Freeway to Calgrove Boulevard and for improvements to The Old Road, which parallels the I-5.
