$5 MILLION IN COCAINE IS SEIZED.

A Department of Justice task force seized 30 kilograms of cocaine - worth about $5 million - and arrested nine Mexican nationals at a house in Sylmar on Tuesday, striking a blow to a major Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  cocaine distribution ring, officials said.

 Allied Task Force descended on the house in the 14500 block of Bledsoe Street about 2 p.m. to serve a search warrant, said Jerry Hunter, Assistant Chief of the Department of Justice's Bureau of Narcotic narcotic, any of a number of substances that have a depressant effect on the nervous system. The chief narcotic drugs are opium, its constituents morphine and codeine, and the morphine derivative heroin.

During the raid, seven of the suspects ran, one jumped in a car and the last one hid underneath the house, Hunter said. The suspect in the car backed out of the driveway toward an officer, and that officer fired a single round through the rear window of the car, forcing him to surrender. No one was injured in·jure

Officials believe the men used the Sylmar house as a local distribution point.
