$425,000 IN GRANTS TO AID FOUR PROJECTS.

Ventura County and the city of Ventura plan to fund four environmental projects with $425,000 in state grants, officials said Thursday.

The county also will receive $100,000 to develop a parcel database and associated mapping for coastal prime agricultural lands.

``We are very pleased to get the grants,'' said Rochelle Margolin, economic development associate with the city of Ventura. ``They will help forward the projects we are working on.''

The funding comes as part of $3.1 million being awarded through Gov. Gray Davis' coastal initiative program, aimed at environmental protection and construction efforts.

``These grants will allow local governments along the California coast to rebuild piers, protect agricultural lands, improve eroding beaches and coastal access, restore wetlands, protect marine life and acquire open space in need of protection,'' Davis said in a statement. ``These projects will help protect our valuable coastal habitat and address future energy planning Energy planning has a number of different meanings. Funded from royalties imposed by state law in 1996 and paid by companies engaged in offshore oil drilling, the grants can be used for virtually any activity related to offshore energy development consistent with the state's Coastal Management Program.
