Deutschland, officially Federal Republic of Germany, republic (2005 est. pop. 82,431,000), 137,699 sq mi (356,733 sq km).  (Claims Conference) will announce the largest-ever one-day distribution of compensation to Holocaust survivors There are many famous Holocaust survivors who survived the Nazi genocides in Europe and went on to achievements of great fame and notability. Those listed here were, at the very least, residents of the parts of Europe occupied by the Axis powers during World War II who survived  at a press conference on Monday Monday: see week.  Aug. 2 at 10 am, at 130 East 59 St., 2d floor.

The Claims Conference will announce payment of $401 million to 130,681 former Holocaust survivors living in 62 countries. The payments are the second installment from the German Foundation established in 2000 to compensate former Nazi-era slave and forced laborers.

These second payments are in addition to $703 million already distributed since 2001 and an additional $217 million from the Swiss Banks Settlement for slave labor compensation. These payments will bring to $1.3 billion the total distributed by the Claims Conference to former Holocaust Holocaust (hŏl`əkôst', hō`lə–), name given to the period of persecution and extermination of European Jews by Nazi Germany.  slave laborers.

Holocaust survivors will speak at the press conference and be available for interviews.

In addition, processing survivors' applications has led to uncovering new evidence about aspects of the Holocaust that otherwise would have disappeared from history with the last of the aging survivors.
