$220M hotel, trade center planned in 'worldly' deal.


For the first time since the Eastern Bloc During the Cold War, the term Eastern Bloc (or Soviet Bloc) was used to refer to the Soviet Union and its allies in Central and Eastern Europe (Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and—until the early 1960s—Albania).  countries became the new Commonwealth of Independent States Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), community of independent nations established by a treaty signed at Minsk, Belarus, on Dec. 8, 1991, by the heads of state of Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine. Between Dec. 8 and Dec. , and after one year in negotiation, a $220 million international development deal for Lviv, Ukraine has been struck.

The 30-story project, consisting of a 500-room, five-star hotel; a 150,000-square-foot convention center; a 350,000- square-foot office complex; and 700 residential condominiums serviced by 50,000-square-foot of retail facilities, is scheduled to commence late 1992 with completion set for the end of 1995.

The project was awarded to Country Squire International Corporation, a Canadian company, who in partnership with McIntosh Alliance International Hotel Development, Inc. of Washington, D.C., will own and operate the facility.
