The money will be used to launch the Michael D. Youth Orchestra perform in May at College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation. . ``After hearing these youngsters play, I knew this was a group that deserved special support,'' Jones said. The Santa Clarita Valley Youth Orchestra Foundation, which supports and raises money to support the local instrumental music group, voted to use the fund to begin the scholarship, which was already in the planning stages. ``We decided that it would be a great idea to start a scholarship fund in his name,'' said Mimi Schiff, foundation board president. ``He gave us the seed money. ``There are many talented youngsters in our community who would benefit greatly from the instrumental music program we provide,'' Schiff added. ``Having a scholarship fund to help them pay the costs of the program will allow many deserving de·serv·ing adj.
