) has been selected as general contractor A general contractor is an organization or individual that contracts with another organization or individual (the owner) for the construction of a building, road or any other execution of work or facility.  for the construction of a new, $15.5 million elementary school elementary school: see school.  to be built in Jersey City, part of an overall building and renovation program for the city's school district, announced Eugene L. Polster, president of CCI.

Controlled Construction Inc. recently broke ground to build this 145,000square-foot building, located at Belmont and Bergen Avenues. CCI will coordinate and oversee the construction team to ensure the successful completion of the school, which will house grades Kindergarten through 8.

The new elementary school will include a 8,100-square-foot gymnasium and 653-seat auditorium, 1,200-squarefoot computer room, music room, 318seat cafeteria, kitchen and faculty dining room, dark room, 7,500-squarefoot library and reading area, and 1,200 square-foot art room. The auditorium will be equipped to accommodate the handicapped and hearing impaired.

The construction of Public School #17 reflects the city's commitment to providing the school system with updated academic facilities and expanded programs. This new school will accommodate up to 1,057 students.

Building plans call for construction of a steel-frame, three story structure. The exterior will feature intricate patterns of various concrete masonry units and face brick. On-site improvements will include volley ball Vol´ley ball
