$120 million exapansion project slated for Hwy 11.


Nearly $120 million is set to be invested by the Ontario Ontario, city, United States

As part of the government's stated commitment to complete the four-laning of Highway 11 from Katrine to Burk's Falls by 2012, the first project will involve the next phase of this initiative. This will include the construction of eight bridges, a new interchange An interchange is a location where two things meet, usually perform some kind of exchange, and possibly go on their ways again. It is most commonly used in four contexts:
  • Transportation:
 at Ferguson Road /Highway 520, as well as the re-alignment of Highway 592 /Sunset Pass Drive from Deer Lake There are several places named Deer Lake in Canada and the United States: Canada
  • Deer Lake (British Columbia)
  • Deer Lake (Newfoundland), a large lake in western Newfoundland
 Road to Katrine Road. Work for this project is currently underway and is slated to be finished in late 2008.

The second project will feature the construction of 9.5 kilometres of new four-lane roadway between Boundary Road and the existing end of the four-laning north of South River. This process will involve the construction of seven new bridges as well as interchanges at Boundary Road and the north entrance to South River. A snowmobile snowmobile, vehicle designed to travel over snow, ice, and similar surfaces that offer limited traction and weight-supporting capability. As the performance of the vehicle depends to a large extent on keeping its weight as low as possible, there is no enclosure for  culvert will also be built near the Boundary Road interchange. This project is set to begin in the near future, and is likely to be completed in October 2009.

This announcement represents part of the $357 million being spent by the provincial government in highway development throughout the North within the next year.
