(R) Software Group Inc. (Nasdaq:JDAS) announced that Dollar Tree Stores Inc. (Nasdaq:DLTR DLTR Duke Law and Technology Review ), the leading U.S. operator of discount variety stores, is using several of the JDA Portfolio(TM) applications that it licensed in June 2000.

The Virginia-based retailer, which operates more than 1,860 stores, is currently rolling out JDA's Win/DSS(R) in-store system to 150 of its stores and plans to install the product into additional store locations.

In addition, the retailer has deployed Retail IDEAS(R) data warehouse and Arthur Planning(TM), and plans to launch Arthur Allocation(TM) and key components of Merchandise Management System A merchandise management system (MMS) is an automated information system to keep track of the inventory in a warehouse or store. Usually the merchandise can be grouped into product lines. Developed as part of the 3GPP project, MMS phones are generally backward compatible with SMS and EMS. (R)) in the first quarter of 2002. Dollar Tree also plans a future implementation of JDA's Store Portal(TM), Arthur Information Manager(TM) and Arthur Performance Analysis(TM).

Ray Hamilton Ray "Sugar Bear" Hamilton (born January 20, 1951) is a former American football player from 1973 through 1981 for the New England Patriots, and the current defensive line coach for the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars. , Dollar Tree's chief information officer, stated that this progressive implementation approach has enabled the retailer to experience rapid results that benefit the entire chain.

For example, Hamilton explained, "The predefined, retail-specific templates in Retail IDEAS allow us to quickly analyze daily sell-through, margins and categories by store. As a result, we will be able to better plan next year's buy, allocating accurate quantities of product to the right stores and maximizing margins through improved merchandising strategies."

Hamilton also commented that Dollar Tree cashiers enjoy the simplicity of Win/DSS. "Our stores are the modern day equivalent of the traditional variety store, offering an ever changing range of general merchandise in many categories from housewares house·wares

"Our cashiers are more quickly ringing up sales, which formerly required cashier identification of taxability, redemption values, and items that sell for less than a dollar. Scanning enables our cashiers to focus on other more important components of customer service, like the customer."

"We congratulate Dollar Tree on its initial go live and rollout success," stated David Tidmarsh, JDA's senior vice president for client services.

"Considering the massive scope of this project, it's quite impressive to see Dollar Tree's rapid assimilation of the JDA Portfolio applications into their daily business processes. We attribute Dollar Tree's success to its exceptional executive leaders and enthusiastic business users who are committed to the JDA partnership."

"As we proceed with the next phase of this project, we look forward to helping Dollar Tree build on the impressive return on investment that they've already achieved," added Tidmarsh.
