$1.3 million earmarked for aerospace titanium development.

The 2007 U.S. Department of Defense (DOD (1) (Dial On Demand) A feature that allows a device to automatically dial a telephone number. For example, an ISDN router with dial on demand will automatically dial up the ISP when it senses IP traffic destined for the Internet. ) appropriations bill, which would grant $1.3 million for the manufacture of advanced aerospace titanium structural castings, has been passed by the House and is awaiting Senate approval.

The House passed the U.S. DOD Appropriations Act of Fiscal Year 2007 (H.R. 5631) by a vote of 407 to 19. The money would be used to support the research, development, demonstration and integration of titanium structures into military aerospace applications.

(R-Mich.), that money will likely go to Alcoa's Howmet Products and Services, Whitehall, Mich.

"The modern global threat map demands a more agile military than at any other time in its history," said Hoekstra. "Alcoa's effort to integrate such an effective metal into the equipment of the Armed Forces improves its ability to effectively respond to the threats wherever in the world that they arise."

However, while the money is committed to titanium casting research, there is some chance that it will not reach Howmet, according to a spokesperson for the office of Rep. Jerry Lewis, the chairman of the House Appropriations Committee In the United States government, the Appropriations Committee can refer to either:

If the funds are received by Howmet, the program will apply Alcoa's Collaborative Development Approach process to titanium intensive structures and components in key platforms, including the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter A strike fighter is a fighter aircraft which is also capable of attacking surface targets, including ships.
