The university was founded in 1876, graduating its first class two years later. The University of Oregon is one of 60 members of the Association of American Universities. to help make the history of the Pacific Northwest more accessible to the public. The gift from Paulson Investment Company Inc. will support the UO library's special collections In library science, special collections (often abbreviated to Spec. Coll. or S.C.) is the name applied to a specific repository within a library which stores materials of a "special" nature. department, which houses rare books, manuscripts, historical photographs and other materials on Oregon and North- west history.
