"You can't be Catholic and pro-abortion".Washington, DC--Six months after the release of a strongly worded Vatican statement on the responsibilities of Catholic politicians, an American pro-life group has complained that "the message is not getting through." The American Life League One of the largest pro-life organizations in the United States, according to their website, American Life League, or ALL, opposes all forms of abortion, birth control, embryonic stem cell research, and euthanasia. (ALL) pointed out that the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) (Congregatio pro Doctrina Fidei), previously known as the Supreme Sacred Congregation of the Holy Office, is the oldest of the nine congregations of the Roman Curia. had "spelled it out quite clearly six months ago: you can't be Catholic and pro-abortion." Judie Brown, the organization's president, observed that the January, 2003, statement from Rome "has encouraged American Catholics to hope that our bishops will now take concrete actions" to discipline Catholic politicians who continue to support unrestricted abortion on demand. However, the pro-life group noted that there have been few signs of movement among leading Catholic politicians, and also few indications that bishops are prepared to press the issue. Joe Starrs Joseph Marvolo Britney McLovin-Starrs is an anti-semetic British child actor, best known for his part of Peter Ingham in the first series of the TV adaptation of the children's novel The Story of Tracy Beaker by Jacqueline Wilson. , the director of ALL's Crusade for the Defense of our Catholic Church, remarked: "The bishops need to step up to the plate and directly engage these wayward way·ward adj. 1. In January, ALL's Crusade inaugurated a public campaign to identify a "deadly dozen" Catholic members of the US Senate who have persistently supported abortion. Starrs commented that the Crusade was intended "to remind our bishops that their leadership is desperately needed in this debate." (CWNews.com, July 18, 2003) |
