"What You See Is What You Get" With Sony And Light Source's 24-Inch -- 22.5-Inch Viewable Image -- Super-Wide Trinitron Display/Colortron Color System Bundle; Sony and Light Source Continue Commitment to Color Accuracy Needs Of High-End Display Customers.


LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 9, 1996--Sony Electronics and Light Source today announced that Sony will bundle a custom version of Light Source's Colortron(a) Color System with Sony's new super-wide GDM-W900 24-inch (22.5-inch viewable image The actual diagonal image on a monitor screen. For a long time, CRT measurements have been overstated; for example, a 17" CRT is generally between 15" and 15.8" diagonal. On the other hand, flat panel monitors on laptops, and later on desktops, have always provided accurate measurements, ) Trinitron display.

"This bundle gives graphic arts, pre-press, visualization/animation and other professional color users a comprehensive, cost-effective color solution," said Michael Fox, marketing manager for Sony Information Technologies of America, a divisional company of Sony Electronics Inc. "Users of high-end color displays demand excellent color accuracy and won't settle for anything less," Fox said. "By offering Light Source's Colortron with our high-end SE display series and bundling it with our new Multiscan GDM-W900 24-inch display, Sony customers get a cross-platform, cost-effective total color solution."

The Colortron will also be offered as an option on Sony's high-end 17- and 20-inch (15.9 and 19.1-inch viewable image) SE displays.

The Sony version of the Colortron Color System includes Colortron II(a), a highly accurate hand-held 32-band measurement device that reads and captures color from reflective, transmissive and emissive e·mis·sive

 surfaces; ColorShop(a), software designed for the manipulation and communication of color; and the SpectroCalibrator(a), which accurately calibrates, stabilizes and corrects displays. The Sony version will include software, cabling, documentation and support for both the Macintosh and the Windows 95 operating systems.

The system also creates a Photoshop Monitor Setup profile or ColorSync 2.0/ICC monitor profile that allows matching and stabilization of multiple monitors over time.

For Macintosh and PC users who demand accurate color, the Colortron System acts not only as a display calibrator calibrator

The Sony GDM-W900 display with the Colortron bundle will carry an estimated selling price of $4,999(a).
