"Tivoli-Ready" Means Instant Manageability for Both Hardware and Software Products.

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 12, 1998--

Benefits Extend to Networks, Servers, Databases, Middleware, Hardware, Software

Tivoli Systems, during its third annual Tivoli Partner Exchange taking place this week in Austin, Texas, announced its "Tivoli-Ready" initiative is gaining industry-wide attention from such luminaries as IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries) , Intel, Microsoft and 3Com.

Today, 46 partners have integrated their products with Tivoli Management Software and carry the "Tivoli-Ready" brand on their packaging. Leading vendors have already enabled both hardware and software products to be "Tivoli-Ready," meaning the product can instantly take advantage of Tivoli's management capabilities. These agreements include:

3Com: Tivoli's Management Agent is available on all 3Com network interface cards (NICs). Nearly 2 million NICs have been shipped pre-loaded with the Tivoli agent, and 3Com expects to ship more than one million every month.

IBM: All new IBM PCs, ThinkPads and NetFinity servers self-configure and install the Tivoli Management Agent.

Intel: All personal computers based on the Wired-for-Management (WfM) baseline specification are "Tivoli-Ready." In addition, older model PCs can utilize Intel's LANDesk Client Manager "cv" to automatically take advantage of Tivoli's management capabilities.

Microsoft: Microsoft Windows See Windows.

(operating system) Microsoft Windows - Microsoft's proprietary window system and user interface software released in 1985 to run on top of MS-DOS. Widely criticised for being too slow (hence "Windoze", "Microsloth Windows") on the machines available then.
NT 5.0 will ship "Tivoli-Ready," which means that all Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking.  5.0-based systems can be managed "out-of-the-box," by WBEM-enabled Tivoli Management Software.

Customers who purchase hardware or software that carries the "Tivoli-Ready" logo are guaranteed the product will integrate "out-of-the-box" with Tivoli Management software. Partners must undergo rigorous integration testing (testing) integration testing - A type of testing in which software and/or hardware components are combined and tested to confirm that they interact according to their requirements. Integration testing can continue progressively until the entire system has been integrated.  on all platforms by Tivoli engineers in Tivoli's certification labs. Tivoli works with partners to assist them in their integration work by developing a minimum set of requirements that must be present in the product prior to certification, by making testing centers available throughout the world and by providing an integration toolkit.

Commonly known as porting centers, the labs enable partners to test their integration work with the Tivoli environment on a variety of platforms to discover and resolve any outstanding problems with the code before going on to the certification lab. Porting centers are located in the following cities: --Bangalore, India --Hursley, UK --San Mateo, CA --Sao Paulo, Brazil --Shanghai, China --Stuttgart, Germany --Sydney, Australia --Toronto, Canada --Waltham, MA

With the latest version of Tivoli's product integration toolkit, Tivoli Integration Toolkit 2.1, independent software vendors and application developers can quickly and easily integrate their applications with Tivoli Enterprise Software and build "Tivoli-Ready" functionality into their products.

In a separate announcement today, IBM and Tivoli announced a joint initiative to enable all of IBM's software products as "Tivoli-Ready." Examples of industry-leading software from IBM which will be "Tivoli-Ready" include MQSeries, DB2, Universal Data Base (UDB See DB2 UDB.
