Of the five couples, visitors to The Knot have selected one winning pair who--despite an inability to legally wed--are celebrating their wedding in a unique way. Kimberly Acquaviva and Kimberly McGannon from St. Petersburg, Florida St. Petersburg (often shortened to St. Pete) is a city in Pinellas County, Florida, United States. The city is known as a vacation destination for North American and European vacationers, as well as a politically important battleground in U.S. Presidential politics. , were chosen as The Knot Millennium Couple by a landslide vote. The couple wins a $4,800 shopping spree on The Knot Wedding Gift Registry, which features more than 10,000 name-brand products, ranging from china to camping gear, handmixers to home mortgages.

On April 8, 2000, Kimberly and Kimberly are celebrating their special day with an intimate Victorian garden reception on the beach. Because of Kimberly McGannon's ardent interest in antique china and porcelain, the couple has spent the past year and a half handpicking antique teacup and saucer sets for their wedding guests, based on each guest's individual interests and personalities.

Before Kimberly Acquaviva's mother passed away, she told her daughter, "Marry for love and don't worry about what others think." The "two Kimmies" are following that advice by celebrating their commitment to one another even if their union cannot be officially recognized.

Nearly 5,000 couples entered into a worldwide search for sweethearts getting hitched in the year 2000. The five couples selected as finalists reflect a wide spectrum of how weddings are being interpreted as we move into the next century - dealing with modern-day issues such as inter-ethnicity, merging family traditions, second marriage, and long-distance romances.

"At The Knot, we believe that every couple--no matter what race, color, sex, or background--should celebrate their love," says Carley Roney, cofounder co·found
