"Stem Cell Research," from Elsevier; Cell Press publishing deal.Elsevier Science (Amsterdam/New York) has begun the publication of a new journal, "Stem Cell stem cell In living organisms, an undifferentiated cell that can produce other cells that eventually make up specialized tissues and organs. There are two major types of stem cells, embryonic and adult. Research," with a September issue. The journal will be published six times a year and will focus on "high quality" research in all aspects of stem cell science and applications. The new journal covers all aspects of stem cell research, including embryonic stem cells, tissue-specific stem cells stem cells, unspecialized human or animal cells that can produce mature specialized body cells and at the same time replicate themselves. Embryonic stem cells are derived from a blastocyst (the blastula typical of placental mammals; see embryo), which is very young , cancer stem cells, developmental studies, stern cell genomics, and translational research. Content focuses on the study of stem cells as used to understand cell development and potential application for cancer treatment and organ function for any injury and disease. Publisher Noelle Gracy said "it's a field growing faster than any other in the life sciences. It was a natural choice for a new journal launch." All material, including original research, short reports and reviews are available via Elsevier's publication platform ScienceDirect. In related news, Cell Press (Cambridge, MA), now a unit of Elsevier, will take over publication of "The American Journal of Human Genetics The American Journal of Human Genetics is a leading journal in the field of human genetics. Since its inception in 1948 by the American Society for Human Genetics, the Journal has provided a record of research and review relating to heredity in humans and to the application " from owner The American Society of Human Genetics Human genetics A discipline concerned with genetically determined resemblances and differences among human beings. Technological advances in the visualization of human chromosomes have shown that abnormalities of chromosome number or structure are surprisingly beginning in January 2008. The monthly title publishes research and reviews related to heredity heredity, transmission from generation to generation through the process of reproduction in plants and animals of factors which cause the offspring to resemble their parents. That like begets like has been a maxim since ancient times. in humans and to the application of genetic principles in medicine, public policy, and molecular and cell biology. Cell Press produces 12 other biology journal titles, including "Cell Stem Cell" and "Cell Host & Microbe microbe /mi·crobe/ (mi´krob) a microorganism, especially a pathogenic one such as a bacterium, protozoan, or fungus.micro´bialmicro´bic mi·crobe n. ," both launched this year, and "Cell," "Molecular Cell" and "Chemistry & Biology," among others. |
