For other uses, see Oakland (disambiguation). Oakland (IPA: /ˈoʊklənd/), founded in 1852, is the eighth-largest city in the U.S. , homeowner shot his attacker. Patrick McCullough, the homeowner, was leaving his house when he was confronted by the youths, mainly male. The youths were angry because McCullough called the police whenever he saw drug dealing in his neighborhood. This was not the first time that he had been harassed, and he had been having increased problems in his neighborhood, including one occasion when a 15-pound piece of concrete was thrown through his window and another incident when a local drug dealer, Wayne Camper, and two of his cronies beat and kicked him in his front yard. Someone in the group called McCullough a "snitch snitch Slang v. snitched, snitch·ing, snitch·es v.tr. To steal (something, usually something of little value); pilfer. See Synonyms at steal. v.intr. ." McCullough replied, and 16year-old Melvin McHenry attacked him. The two men exchanged punches. McHenry broke off his attack and asked another group member for a gun. When McHenry reached for the gun that was offered to him, McCullough shot him in the arm. Neither McCullough nor McHenry will be charged (the only reason that McCullough didn't face a weapons charge was because he was on his own property at the time of the incident), though many of McCullough's neighbors were enraged en·rage tr.v. en·raged, en·rag·ing, en·rag·es To put into a rage; infuriate.
