"Slyding" into playground safety.


Each year more than 200,000 kids visit an emergency room after sustaining a playground Playground - A visual language for children, developed for Apple's Vivarium Project. OOPSLA 89 or 90?  injury.

Playground industry organizations have taken action and teamed up with Weekly Reader to create the Play Smart, Play Safe curriculum for kindergarten kindergarten [Ger.,=garden of children], system of preschool education. Friedrich Froebel designed (1837) the kindergarten to provide an educational situation less formal than that of the elementary school but one in which children's creative play instincts would be  students. The curriculum aims to reduce the number and severity of playground injuries.

Play Smart, Play Safe was launched during National Playground Safety Week beginning April 24 and received rave reviews from teachers. parents and pint-sized players. More than 750,000 kindergartners listened and learned as Slyde addressed safety basics.

"Teachers told us kids were mesmerized by Slyde the Playground Hound hound, classification used by breeders and kennel clubs to designate dogs bred to hunt animals. Most of the dogs in this group hunt by scent, their quarry ranging from such large game as bear or elk to small game and vermin; ground scenters trail slowly with the head ," relates Mia Toschi, managing editor for WRC WRC World Rally Championship (auto racing)
