Scitex will present its complete range of products for the graphic arts industry, digital publishing and the printing market -- including numerous innovative new products for a wide variety of applications -- to an international audience.

Major product announcements include the Lotem 800V(TM) platesetter and the 74 Karat karat

Expected to be a highlight of the exposition, the Lotem 800V platesetter is optimized for high-quality computer-to-plate color production. This new platesetter is fully automated, highly flexible, easy-to-use, and offers industry-leading levels of productivity. Driven by the award-winning Brisque Impose(TM) digital front end, the Lotem 800V also features a high-velocity rotating external drum and a thermal, multibeam imaging head. A product of joint development with KBA-Planeta AG, the 74 Karat digital offset press combines the digital imaging expertise of Scitex with the offset knowledge of the industry-leading supplier of medium- to large-format sheet-fed offset presses. Products and systems will be demonstrated in a variety of networked configurations. A brand new CCD colour flat-bed scanner with a scanning area of 305 x 432 mm/12 x 17in., the EverSmart Pro scanner is designed with the same technology as the EverSmart scanner. The EverSmart Pro scanner has a maximum scanning resolution of 8200 dpi (optical resolution 3175 dpi, maximum enlargement of 2700% for every image and is intended for high-productivity, parallel-workflow applications (focusing based on prescans is done in the foreground and production scans are carried out in the background). In addition to automatic adjustment routines, the EverSmart Pro software also offers a range of sophisticated setting and correction tools for professionals. The EverSmart Pro scanner includes an integrated light table. (See dedicated release.)

Also on display will be the Smart 342L(TM) colour flatbed scanner A scanner that provides a flat, glass surface to hold pages of paper, books and other objects for scanning. The scan head is moved under the glass across the page. Sheet feeders are usually optionally available that allow multiple sheets to be fed automatically. , with the SmartDot(TM) application for analogue film scanning, the Monoscan L(TM) large-format scanner for lineart and capture of pre-screened separations, the Leaf CatchLight(TM) digital camera back and the Leaf Digital Camera Back II Live(TM), a digital camera back that offers live video capability for easy image set-up and control.

RIPs, front-ends and workflow management

NEW: Scitex InkPRO

The present status of Scitex development work in CIP (1) (Common Isochronous Packet) The packet format used in time-based (real time) FireWire transmission. See FireWire, IEC 61883 and mLAN.

Data management and database-oriented archiving

NEW: Scitex Ripro Bantam Bantam

Legato software, including Celestra data management (data mining, data migration, etc.  software and DLT (Digital Linear Tape) A magnetic tape technology originally developed by Digital for its VAX line. The Scitex Ripro Bantam integrates all the applications and hardware required to set up a server for the pre-press production environment at an affordable price.

NEW: Scitex Ripro Scheduled Archiving

The Scitex Ripro Scheduled Archiving Solution combines all the functionality of the Scitex Ripro Backup Solution together with an additional Scitex module that allows users to archive/retrieve files and folders using the FileTrack(TM) application from a Macintosh(r) computer front-end. Scheduled Archiving is available for the DLT 4500 as a full solution (backup and archiving) or as a software-only upgrade for existing users of the backup DLT 4500 solution. The product is available only for Scitex Ripro Archiver users.

Scitex Ripro Archiver 2100

Digital Contract Proofing

Iris Digital Contract Proofing is an important concept for 1997 and includes a set of new media, plus new printer calibration and colour characterisation software. These combined technologies will make it possible for Iris Realist proofers to meet the commercial proofing needs within digital workflows.

NEW: Iris RealistFX 5015 and Iris RealistFX 5030

New versions of the successful digital inkjet proofers, Iris RealistFX 5015(TM) and Iris RealistFX 5030(TM) include innovative pinpoint technology enabling ink droplets to be positioned on the printing substrate with a previously unknown degree of precision, which results in improved overall image quality. NEW: Iris ColorZone

NEW: Iris ColorBurst

An Iris Realist front-end application for Windows `95 or Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking. , the new Iris ColorBurst(TM) print server software offers functionality such as PostScript(TM) Level 2 support and integrated anti-aliasing.

The Iris RealistFX 5015 and Iris RealistFX 5030 digital contract proofers will be featured, together with the Iris IQ Pro 3.0(TM) and Brisque front-ends. Mono- or four-colour imposition checking at actual size with the Scitex Improof 750C(TM) large-format proofer will also be demonstrated.

Computer-to-Film and film exposure

NEW: Dolev 2dry

The Dolev 2dry(TM) is an internal-drum imagesetter A machine that generates output for the printing process, which is either a film-based paper that is photographed or the actual film for making the printing plates. Input comes from the keyboard, or via disk, tape or modem.  for punched and plate-ready dry film exposure in B3 format (exposure format without punch: 381 x 559 mm), with an integrated thermal processing unit. The Dolev 2dry works with a laser diode A semiconductor-based laser used to generate analog signals or digital pulses for transmission through optical fibers. Both laser diodes and LEDs (light-emitting diodes) are used for this purpose, but the laser diode generates a smaller beam that is easier to couple with the smaller core  and images Imation Dry-View film, which it outputs in a form that can be used directly for plate exposure. In addition, the imagesetter will optionally be able to expose conventional wet-processing films. (See dedicated release.)

Dolev 4Press

The Dolev 4Press(TM) internal-drum imagesetter for 4-up output (B2+ format) is designed for producing imposed, punched, and plate-ready film (optionally with a customer-specific register-punching system). It will be demonstrated with an online film processor.

Dolev 800V

The Dolev 800V(TM) large-format (B+ format) internal drum imagesetter will be presented in conjunction with the Brisque Impose digital front end, demonstrating the unique Scitex "Print Predictable" digital workflow. The Dolev 800V will be shown with an online processor.

Computer-to-plate

 RIP Variable Information Printing Solution

Scitex Darwin(TM) and Scitex VPS RIP(TM) are new software tools for creating, processing, and digitally printing documents containing variable information (VI). The Scitex Darwin application includes an Xtension to QuarkXPress for creating VI documents. Another component of the solution is Scitex VPS, a Scitex extension to PostScript, which converts VI documents into a VI-optimised file format. The Scitex VPS RIP processes PostScript and Scitex VPS files quickly and efficiently. Since these innovations are based on PostScript, the solution is open and compatible with a large number of applications. Scitex will be demonstrating how Scitex Darwin can be used to enter the variable contents of online databases for printing variable data to the Spontane V colour digital printing system.
