Efforts by the state liquor bureau to withhold licensing of the specialty beer "Santa's Butt Winter Porter" were halted in late December after a lawsuit was filed. Calling it "undignified" and "improper" the bureau had initially refused to license the label, which depicts Santa's clothed derriere perched atop a barrel (or "butt") of beer. Despite the bureau's granting of the license, the lawsuit will continue to be pursued to prevent future state censorship efforts. Two other labels--Les Sans Culottes, depicting Delacroix's painting Liberty Leading the People and Rose de Gambrinus Gambrinus (gămbrī`nəs), mythical Flemish king, to whom the invention of beer is attributed. He is represented in modern folk art as straddling a keg., featuring a painting of the king of Flanders sitting with a bare-breasted woman--were denied licensing.
