Gracing the cover of the second issue of ifcRANT, The Independent Film Channel's (IFC) new consumer magazine bent on expanding audiences' access to all things independent, is the reigning bad boy of the underground film scene, John Waters. The outrageous director responsible for the camp classics Pink Flamingos, Hairspray and Polyester, asks what can we do to punish bad cinema, praises cinematic terrorism, and discusses his career from its outlaw roots to his latest production Cecil B. DeMented, an unabashed heckling of Hollywood and today's movie culture.

The second issue of ifcRANT Magazine also previews The Eyes of Tammy Faye, a documentary chronicling the rise and fall and ultimate rebound of the eponymous diva and Steal This Movie!, a profile of the late political prankster Abbie Hoffman. Other features contemplate the future of film in the dotcom world and examine the impact of digital technology. The latest edition also gives readers a peek at Michael Stipe's (lead singer of R.E.M. and producer of Being John Malkovich and American Movie) recent venture into cyberspace, up-and-coming Welsh chick magnet Ioan Gruffudd (TV's Horatio Hornblower, Titanic), as well as Angry Kid, a new foul-mouthed, internet-dwelling claymation character from Academy Award-winning Aardman Animations, the wacky Brits that created Wallace & Gromit and Chicken Run.

Mark Borchardt, filmmaker and subject of the award-winning documentary American Movie, uses ifcRANT Magazine regular section "Last Rant" to sound off about a few of the obsessions of the independent film world and adds his two cents to the continuing debate over digital video. "I just can't see an impassioned writer trying to convince another writer to use a computer instead of a simple legal pad. What difference could it possibly make? A slight improvement in efficiency? Meaningless. Good work is blood, sweat and tears."

True to ifcRANT's pledge to deliver the first interactive, cross-platform publication, film lovers will also be able to experience Waters over the airwaves, with ifcRANT on Television. An extension of the magazine, the insider rants are a series of 60-second segments airing on the network interstitially between IFC programming. The segments allow prominent indie figures to pontificate on their favorite subject or air their grievances. Viewers can catch director Miguel Arteta (Star Maps) protesting the complexity of the English language, citing a conspiracy against foreigners. In an opposition to the "police state" in which he resides, writer/actor/speeder Michael White vents about the hidden traffic cameras in Los Angeles that catch motorists running red lights and the costly tickets that appear in offenders' mailboxes (seems Mike is a little too familiar with these...). Brothers and fellow C&B thespians Chris and Paul Weitz (producer and director of American Pie, respectively) razz each other about their on-set conduct.

Other upcoming ifcRANT on Television and ifcRANT Online segments include Kevin Smith (Clerks, Dogma), Natasha Lyonne (But I'm a Cheerleader, Slums of Beverly Hills) and Chris Eigeman (The Last Days of Disco, Barcelona).
