"Regarding Beauty".HIRSHHORN MUSEUM Seven years ago in The Nation, Arthur C. Danto posed the question "What happened to Beauty?" Now he is invited to write one of several catalogue essays for Neal Benezra's and Olga Viso's extensive survey. Irrelevant for decades, beauty is back with a vengeance. A show of eighty-plus works by more than thirty artists active since 1950, "Regarding Beauty" will investigate various articulations of the beautiful, vis-a-vis the human form as well as less tangible realms - light, thought, and abstraction. The artists included range from Picasso to Gerhard Richter to more recent arrivals, like Pipilotti Rist and Matthew Barney. Oct. 7, 1999-Jan. 17, 2000; travels to Haus der Kunst, Munich, Feb. II-Apr. 30, 2000. |
