London, Nov 25 (ANI): Salim Ahmed Hamdan For Hamdan's Supreme Court case, see .
Salim Ahmed Hamdan (born 1970 (no one, including Hamdan himself, knows for sure[1])) is a Yemeni, captured during the invasion of Afghanistan, and imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay.
, the former driver and bodyguard of Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden Osama bin Laden: see bin Laden, Osama. , will be removed from Guantanamo Bay prison and sent to Yemen to serve the rest of his sentence, reports have said.

Hamdan has been held at Guantanamo Bay for five years. Now, he will be transferred to his native country to serve the final weeks of his sentence, sources said.

In August, Hamdan was convicted by a military commission of providing material support to al-Qaeda but was cleared of more serious terrorism conspiracy charges. He was the second person to be convicted at Guantanamo Bay.

According to The Telegraph, Hamdan was found guilty of being the terror leader's bodyguard and driver, and of receiving weapons training and transporting and delivering arms.

However, the Commission rejected charges that Hamdan conspired with others in carrying out al-Qaeda attacks, including 9/11.

Hamdan received a five and a half-year prison sentence, which was due to be completed by the end of the year, because he had received credit for time served before being found guilty. He was captured in November 2001 in Afghanistan.(ANI)
