"News Agencies: Interests and Challenges" held in Cyprus.At Saint Rapahel Hotel in Cyprus, an international conference under the name of "News Agencies: The Interests and Challenges" was inaugurated this morning.<p>The conference is organized by Cypriote News Agency in cooperation with European Union, and in presence of Cypriote President's representative, Stefanos Stefano, European Commission's representative in Cyprus, Ambassadors of Hungry, Georgia, Greece, Syria, and Bulgaria, and Mediterranean News Agencies' League Director, Nasser Al-Mahl. As to Lebanon, it was represented by a delegation comprised of National News Agency's General Director, Laure Sleiman Saab, the Agency's Technical Department head, Jean Hakim, and Satellite and Internet Department head, Roger Semaan. On this occasion, Cypriote News Agency's Director, Costakis Constantino delivered a word, in which he pointed to the changes that are striking the world on both economic and technological levels. He underlined herein the effect of the globalization globalization Process by which the experience of everyday life, marked by the diffusion of commodities and ideas, is becoming standardized around the world. Factors that have contributed to globalization include increasingly sophisticated communications and transportation on the Media domain and the news agencies in particular. He stressed that the public receives the news in many ways and from different sources. Therefore, news agencies must adopt accuracy and exactness in conveying the news. "The internet is considered to be the most dangerous threat for the Media, especially in the field of written press, whereby the number of newspapers' readers is considerably reduced", he concluded.
