About the Agreement

For the next 4 years, Simon & Schuster Interactive will produce education and entertainment CD-ROM and console titles based on the "M&M's" Characters. These titles will feature the popular characters seen in "M&M's" advertising campaigns.

"This is brand-based publishing at its sweetest," said Gilles Dana, senior vice president and publisher of Simon & Schuster New Media. "We will leverage our expertise and experience as a successful children's software publisher and marketer, while the "M&M's" Brand brings their extraordinary track record as a potent mass-market brand builder. We have every confidence that these products will be among the most successful we have ever published. "

"S&SI's success in establishing brands in the digital world makes them an ideal partner for us," said Paul Lieberman, director of licensing, M&M/Mars. "Furthermore, the collaboration between our two companies to transform the `M&M's'(R) Brand Characters into the interactive environment is a very exciting prospect for M&M/Mars."

About "The Lost Formulas"

THE LOST FORMULAS is a fast-moving 3-D action/education game, starring Red and Yellow "M&M's" Characters. The story begins with Red and Yellow taking a much needed vacation from the "M&M's" factory. While on vacation, Red receives a call telling him the factory was left in control with the "M&M's(R)" MINIs Milk Chocolate Candies. The "M&M's" MINIs have acquired ten of the secret candy formulas (six for "M&M's" Plain, Peanut, Peanut Butter, Almond and Crispy Chocolate Candies) and have tore them into pieces, hiding the fragments throughout the factory. The only product the factory can produce is "M&M's" MINIs - lots of them.

Yellow heads back to the factory and must find the lost formulas and restore order. In the process, he collects "M&M's" MINIs that are scattered throughout each level of the game. Along the way, players will have to do math problems such as addition, subtraction subtraction, fundamental operation of arithmetic; the inverse of addition. If a and b are real numbers (see number), then the number ab is that number (called the difference) which when added to b (the subtractor) equals , multiplication and division to move onto new parts of the plant.

"M&M's": THE LOST FORMULAS (recommended for ages 5-10) will be available in fall 2000 for the PC and Mac.
