"Journal of Instrumentation" & "Bioinspiration & Biomimetics" from IOP.

The Institute of Physics (Philadelphia, PA/London) has begun the publication of two new electronic journals including "Journal of Instrumentation" and "Bioinspiration & Biomimetics." Both will be published six times a year and are available for free through 2006. Annual subscriptions will apply beginning in 2007.

"Journal of Instrumentation" covers major areas related to concepts and instrumentation in detector physics, accelerator science and related experimental methods and techniques, theory, modeling and simulations. Content will also cover materials and associated technologies, engineering and technical issues, monitoring and radiation damage, methods for plasma research, methods and apparatus for astronomy and astrophysics, and data reduction methods.

"Bioinspiration & Biomimetics" publishes research involving the study of principles and functions found in biological systems that have developed through evolution, and the application of that knowledge to produce new basic technologies and new approaches to solving scientific problems. Its main mission is to "draw on biology to enrich engineering and to draw from engineering to enrich biology," IOP said. Content covers systems and their design, cooperative behavior, marine dynamics, sensors and senses, biomechanics, self-assembly and self-healing, and self-organizing biological systems.
