AIST was recently formed through the merger of the Association of Iron & Steel Engineers (Pittsburgh Pittsburgh (pĭts`bərg), city (1990 pop. 369,879), seat of Allegheny co., SW Pa., at the confluence of the Allegheny and the Monongahela rivers, which there form the Ohio River; inc. 1816. , PA) and the Iron & Steel Society (Warrendale, PA). Each of the two associations published their own monthly magazine, including AISE AISE Association of Iron and Steel Engineers

AIST said the new magazine is designed to assist those readers who develop strategies to improve process reliability, product quality and company profits. Content includes information on new technology and trends in equipment, processes, and operating practices in the international iron and steelmaking Steelmaking is the second step in producing steel from iron ore. In this stage, impurities such as sulfur, phosphorus, and excess carbon are removed from the raw iron, and alloying elements such as manganese, nickel, chromium and vanadium are added to produce the exact steel  industry. Each issue highlights one specific technical topic, with articles addressing theory, technology and applications.

Editorial for each issue includes coverage of such topics as oxygen steelmaking, colemaking, ladle metallurgy metallurgy (mĕt`əlûr'jē), science and technology of metals and their alloys. Modern metallurgical research is concerned with the preparation of radioactive metals, with obtaining metals economically from low-grade ores, with , environmental technologies, electric steelmaking, casting, iron-making and maintenance. Content also includes features on successful plant operations, automation, material handling and operations safety.
