"Extreme MACovers".Steve Tidrick's staff at the Multnomah Athletic Club The Multnomah Athletic Club is a private athletic club in Portland, Oregon, United States. Founded in 1891, the club has expanded greatly from its beginnings. It now fills two buildings totaling 55,000 square feet, making it the largest indoor athletic club in the world. in Portland, OR has taken a note from the television "makeover" craze to promote the club's services. The MAC has over 20,000 members, including many world-class athletes. The MAC's "Extreme MACover" contest asked members to nominate nom·i·nate tr.v. nom·i·nat·ed, nom·i·nat·ing, nom·i·nates 1. To propose by name as a candidate, especially for election. 2. To designate or appoint to an office, responsibility, or honor. themselves, family, or friends to participate in a program that demonstrated the positive effects of taking advantage of what the MAC has to offer. Participants receive a program tailored to them, which could include personal training, sports activities, salon services, food preparation training, dining consulting, entertaining advice, language classes, dance instruction, or apparel from Multnomah's shop. Three members were selected from a pool of 15 nominees. Step one in the MACover was a visit to MAC's "Bod Pod" for a fitness assessment including a written health risk appraisal and a fitness test. Club members can follow the participants on the MAC website, where the three are posting "blogs" of their progress.
