"DAN RATHER REPORTS" to Feature a Conversation with Political Consultant James Carville.

"The Passion of His Politics - A Candid Conversation with James Carville" Airs Tuesday, October 23 at 8:00 p.m. ET on HDNet

DALLAS -- This Tuesday's DAN RATHER REPORTS will feature a special presentation of Dan Rather's conversation with the country's best-known political strategist, James Carville. Rather and Carville recently appeared together at the famed 92nd Street Y lecture hall in New York City New York City: see New York, city.
New York City

City (pop., 2000: 8,008,278), southeastern New York, at the mouth of the Hudson River. The largest city in the U.S.
to discuss the 2008 presidential election, examine the current slate of Republican and Democratic contenders, and also take a look back at the historic outcome of the 2000 election.

Rather, who has interviewed every United States president from Dwight D. Eisenhower to George W. Bush, and Carville, who has managed more campaigns than any political consultant, are two of the nation's leading authorities on the democratic process and political campaigns.

In speaking about the Democratic candidates, Carville tells Rather that he's "never seen the Democratic party more unified than it is now," but that the current race is essentially between frontrunners Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. According to Carville, "John Edwards is not gonna be the Democratic nominee."

For the Republicans, Carville predicts "it would be a remarkable feat if the Republicans were able to win this election." Because of turmoil within the party, "this thing is going to get very dicey and very problematic for them," he said. "It's not just gonna sort itself out."

In their discussion of the 2000 presidential election, Carville describes examples of how the media has been involved in the political process, and tells Rather, "What they [The Washington Post and The New York Times] ought to do is just apologize to the country for what they did, and we'd all be over it." Carville continues, "I've never - I don't want to get over it. I want to feel that pain everyday of what they did. I don't want to forget about it. And I don't want a single democrat to ever forget what happened in 2000."

"The Passion of His Politics - A Candid Conversation with James Carville" on DAN RATHER REPORTS airs Tuesday, October 23 at 8:00 p.m. ET on HDNet. The program also airs at 11:00 p.m. ET, to accommodate West Coast prime time.
