Originally developed by Netscape in 1999, RSS--which can stand for RDF (Resource Description Framework) A recommendation from the W3C for creating meta-data structures that define data on the Web. RDF is designed to provide a method for classification of data on Web sites in order to improve searching and navigation (see Semantic Web).  Site Summary, Rich Site Summary, or Really Simple Syndication--is an XML-based format that allows web developers to describe and syndicate web site content. Using RSS (Really Simple Syndication) A syndication format that was developed by Netscape in 1999 and became very popular for aggregating updates to blogs and the news sites. RSS has also stood for "Rich Site Summary" and "RDF Site Summary.  files allows developers to create a data feed that supplies headlines, links, and article summaries from a web site. Other sites can then incorporate them into their pages automatically. Although RSS is in widespread use, people straggle with its confusing and sometimes conflicting documentation and versions.
