franchise provides players with immersive game play; eight-player

and Internet combat; and more than 30 extreme missions

NovaLogic Inc. announced it has shipped "Comanche 3," one of the most anticipated combat flight simulation titles of the year.

"Comanche 3," the sequel to the best-selling Comanche franchise, boasts immersive game play, multi-player mode for up to eight players and more than 30 intensive combat missions. The simulation also features two distinctly different flight models: an Easy Flight mode for new pilots and an Advanced Flight mode that gives players a truly authentic helicopter experience.

A considerable amount of time has been spent working with military personnel and helicopter pilots to incorporate accurate helicopter flight physics into the game. Cooperation with the U.S. Army and manufacturers Boeing and Sikorsky has led to accurate modeling of cockpit functions, stealth and weapon characteristics.

The "Comanche 3" design team has even logged flight time in Sikorsky's Comanche simulator. Test flights of the actual Comanche prototype have only taken place within the last year at Sikorsky's Development Flight Test Center in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Although "Comanche 3" will be an authentic simulation, it is also designed to be one of the easiest for newcomers to fly. It comes complete with a comprehensive training program and flight tutorial. Players are coached through their first couple missions by an actual helicopter pilot/instructor that speaks to them from the co-pilot seat.

This ensures that the game will be enjoyed by a wide audience, yet remain satisfying to even the most demanding simulation enthusiast.

The Advanced Flight model faithfully recreates the Comanche's high tech avionic wizardry. It requires players to think more about the stresses they place on their engines but also allows for more experimentation with automated flight controls like the V-Stab (Vertical Stabilizer) and Altitude Lock.

There's even a HoverHold feature that allows players to maintain a hover while performing other cockpit tasks. In short, the Advanced Flight model puts players as close to the real thing as most people are likely to get.

One of the most noticeable new features in the game is the attention to detail given to the modeling of the Comanche aircraft. "Comanche 3" features highly detailed retractable landing gear, operable weapons bay doors and rendered pilots that actually turn their heads in response to aircraft movement. Even the helicopter's cannon pivots stay locked on laser-designated targets.

Another new feature is the incorporation of improved 16-bit Dolby SurroundSound capabilities. Players will experience all the sounds of modern combat action in Dolby SurroundSound. Authentic radio communications were specially recorded for this simulation by military pilots. These interactive voice communications combine with actual Comanche engine noise and other sounds of battle to make the simulation come alive in thundering 3-D stereo.

NovaLogic's new Voxel Space 2 graphic engine integrates highly detailed texture-mapped polygon objects with stunning terrain graphics to create photo-realistic 3-D environments. Real-time light sourcing combined with a panning camera feature provide the player with an incredible sense of motion not commonly found in other games of this genre.

"Comanche 3" is further enhanced by its range of multiplayer options. Players have a choice of playing two-player missions through a modem or by direct connect, or adding up to eight additional players over an IPX network. Once connected, players have the option to cooperate with one another to accomplish a common set of mission goals or compete against each other in four different styles of head-to-head play.
