"Budgetel" Brand Acquired, Set for Rapid Expansion.


ATLANTA -- One of the hospitality industry's most familiar brand names in the upper economy segment - Budgetel - has been acquired by an Atlanta-based investor group which is headed by veteran hoteliers Mukesh "Mike" Patel and R.C. Patel. The purchase from The Blackstone Group Blackstone Group L.P. (NYSE: BX) is a prominent private equity and investment management firm founded in 1985 by Peter G. Peterson and Stephen A. Schwarzman. The company is based in New York City, in River House on Park Avenue at Fifty-first Street, with offices in Atlanta,  includes all rights to the Budgetel trademarks and franchise operations in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  and Canada.

"We have very ambitious plans to expand and enhance the rich history of this fine brand," explained Mike Patel, who serves as chairman of the new company. "Our first and most important step is to implement a superior infrastructure that can properly serve the new franchisees we are now actively pursuing."

The new company will operate from Atlanta under the name "Budgetel Franchise System" with a senior staff that includes some of the industry's most recognized and respected veterans, including:

* Carl Newberry, who will serve as president and has more than 30 years experience including as chief financial officer and treasurer with Days Inn, plus as a senior executive with Suburban Extended Stay Hotels Extended Stay Hotels (ESH) is a hotel brand that is the culmination of a rapid expansion in the extended stay hotel extended stay lodging market.

Extended Stay Hotels is now one of the most recognized brands in the extended stay industry.

* Randy Evanchyk, who will serve as executive vice president of franchise development and has held similar positions with Red Roof Inns Red Roof Inn is a hotel chain in the United States. It is a chain trying catering to budget travelers, Red Roof properties are often distinguished by the large dark-red shingle roof that gave them their name. There are over 359 Red Roof locations in 48 states. , Accor Economy Lodging, and LaQuinta Inns

Currently, there are no "Budgetel" properties operating in the U.S., however, the company expects to open 15 franchised properties within 15 weeks.

"Most of these will consist of re-branding by existing properties, however, some may be new properties currently under construction," said R.C. Patel, who is chief executive officer of the new company.

The Budgetel brand will be positioned as an upper economy property by the company, which becomes the hospitality industry's first minority-owned hotel franchisor and will spark an evolution for fair franchising throughout North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere. .
