"Books in Print With Book Reviews" Database Now Available Through IAC InfoTrac SearchBank.


FOSTER CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 20, 1998--A new online database that combines the detailed listings of the popular "Books In Print" reference directory with thousands of book reviews from leading publishing industry and library publications is now available for subscription through the Web-based InfoTrac SearchBank(TM), Information Access Company (IAC (1) (InterApplication Communications) The interprocess communications capability in the Macintosh starting with System 7.0. "Books In Print With Book Reviews" is the latest database to be offered through the InfoTrac SearchBank online service, a widely used electronic research platform utilized by public and academic libraries worldwide. Since 1996, IAC has offered a separate database through InfoTrac SearchBank that contains content of the "Books In Print" reference source.

Both "Books In Print" databases stem from an alliance between IAC and Bowker Reed Reference Electronic Publishing An umbrella term for non-paper publishing, which includes publishing online or on media such as CDs and DVDs. , which manages the electronic distribution of the "Books In Print" series.

The new service links specific book titles with reviews of that title. "Books In Print With Book Reviews" contains more than 288,000 previously published book reviews, with about 20,000 new ones added each year. The reviews are drawn from Publishers Weekly, Library Journal, School Library Journal, Reference and Research Book News, SciTech Book News, University Press Book News and Kirkus Reviews.

Both the "Books In Print" and "Books In Print With Book Reviews" online databases feature current, detailed information about more than 1.9 million books, including title, author, ISBN ISBN

, price, publisher, binding, language, and illustration. Users can turn to InfoTrac SearchBank's subject and index guide and find listings without needing to know the full titles or names of authors.

Both databases also include information about more than 600,000 out-of-print and out-of-stock titles from "Books Out of Print"(TM) and details about 45,000 publishers from "Publishers, Distributors, and Wholesalers of the U.S."(TM).

The new "Books In Print With Book Reviews" alerts users viewing book citations with an onscreen on·screen or on-screen

 notice when relevant book reviews are available. Users can press the onscreen notification button to call up a roster of the available reviews and see the full text of each article.

Libraries currently subscribing to the "Books In Print" database can upgrade to the new service or maintain their current subscriptions.
