"American Beer Week" resolution introduced in House.

A bi-partisan measure was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives in mid-September, lauding the economic, environmental and "good works" contributions to the industry.

The legislation designates October 3-10, 1993, as "Great American Beer Week."

The dates (October 3-10) chosen for the Congressional resolution coincide with the Great American Beer Festival to be held in Denver, CO, October 8-9, said Congressman Dan Schaefer, (R-CO).

"Brewers provide good jobs for millions of American men and women and have a presence in every state of the union," said Schaefer in prepared remarks for a House floor speech late Wednesday.

The Great American Beer Week resolution also mentions the environmental and philanthropic contributions of American brewers, including recent water distribution efforts in the Midwestern states.

Schaefer introduced the legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives, along with 32 co-sponsors. Original co-sponsors include Representatives Robert Andrews, (D-NJ); Cass Ballenger (R-NC); Herbert Bateman, (R-VA); Thomas Barrett, (D-WI); Michael Bilirakis, (R-FL); Thomas Bliley, (R-VA); Peter Blute, (R-MA); John Boehner, (R-OH); William Clinger, (R-PA); Sam Coppersmith, (D-AZ); Christopher Cox, (R-CA); Chet Edwards, (D-TX); Steve Gunderson, (R-WI); Tim Holden, (D-PA); John Kasich, (R-OH); Peter King, (R-NY); Herbert Klien, (D-NJ); David Levy, (R-NY); Bob Livingston, (R-LA); Matthew Martinez, (D-CA); Bill McCollum, (R-FL); Scott McInnis, (R-CO); John Murtha, Jr. (D-PA); Jack Quinn, (R-NY); Thomas Petri, (R-WI); Arthur Ravenel, Jr., (R-SC); Bill Richardson, (D-NM); Dana Rohrabacher, (R-CA); Bill Sarpalius, (D-TX); Jim Saxton, (R-NJ); Norman Sisisky, (D-VA); Bruce Vento, (D-MN) and James T. The Beer Institute reports that the resolution has growing support in the House, and similar legislation will be introduced in the Senate.
