In the program, teachers are integrating academics into hands-on work. Students enter the program during their sophomore year and take required college-prep work alongside the tailored curriculum. Arlo Ketchpaw, English teacher at Burlington, integrates English with construction by having students read articles out of trade publications like Engineering News-Record and Constructor. Students' present oral presentations and Ketchpau teaches them how to decipher contracts and specification sheets. Although the curriculum lacks poetry, Ketchpaw helps students understand how language is used in construction. According to 2005 Racine County Economic Development Corporation report, Kenosha, Racine and Walworth counties will be home to 1,600 new construction jobs between 2002 and 2012.
