"Academy builds the future".

--Journal Sentinel, (Milwaukee) February 12, 2007

Burlington Construction Career Academy, launched in the fall of 2005, is the first school in Wisconsin to have a school-within-a-school. It sets students on a path to becoming anything from bricklayers to electricians to experts in computer-aided design computer-aided design (CAD) or computer-aided design and drafting (CADD), form of automation that helps designers prepare drawings, specifications, parts lists, and other design-related elements using special graphics- and calculations-intensive . The school has become a model for Fond du Lac Fond du Lac (fŏn` də lăk', –jə–), city (1990 pop. 37,757), seat of Fond du Lac co., E central Wis., in a resort region at the south end of Lake Winnebago; inc. 1852.  and other schools planned in Marshfield, La Crosse La Crosse (lə krôs), city (1990 pop. 51,003), seat of La Crosse co., W Wis., at the foot of high bluffs on the Mississippi, where the La Crosse and Black rivers meet; inc. 1856. , Beloit and Sun Prairie Sun Prairie is the name of a few places in the United States:

In the program, teachers are integrating academics into hands-on work. Students enter the program during their sophomore year and take required college-prep work alongside the tailored curriculum. Arlo Ketchpaw, English teacher at Burlington, integrates English with construction by having students read articles out of trade publications like Engineering News-Record and Constructor. Students' present oral presentations and Ketchpau teaches them how to decipher contracts and specification sheets. Although the curriculum lacks poetry, Ketchpaw helps students understand how language is used in construction.

According to 2005 Racine County Economic Development Corporation report, Kenosha, Racine and Walworth counties will be home to 1,600 new construction jobs between 2002 and 2012. Nearly a third of Racine County's population between 18 and 24 lacks a high school diploma A high school diploma is a diploma awarded for the completion of high school. Students have increased their GPAs from 2.26 to 2.55
