"Abusing the Sacraments".(C.I., Jan. 2007, pp. 39-40) I have read with interest the angry epistle epistle (ĭpĭs`əl), in the Bible, a letter of the New Testament. The Pauline Epistles (ascribed to St. Paul) are Romans, First and Second Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, First and Second Thessalonians, First and of Father Bedard, and appreciate his position re the abuse of some of the Sacraments. Yet I am appalled and repulsed by his inclusion of Baptism baptism [Gr., =dipping], in most Christian churches a sacrament. It is a rite of purification by water, a ceremony invoking the grace of God to regenerate the person, free him or her from sin, and make that person a part of the church. . Father Bedard contends that if the infant may not be raised in a household of faith, the Sacrament sacrament [Lat.,=something holy], an outward sign of something sacred. In Christianity, a sacrament is commonly defined as having been instituted by Jesus and consisting of a visible sign of invisible grace. is to be delayed and that may be indefinite. I contend that the denial of Baptism, even for a day, is a grave and gross abuse of authority. This Sacrament is the Christ-given avenue to a happy eternity, and to refuse it to an innocent and defenceless adj. 1. same as defenseless; as, a defenceless child s>. Adj. 1. defenceless - lacking protection or support; "a defenseless child" defenseless vulnerable - susceptible to attack; "a vulnerable bridge" infant is child abuse. If the unbaptized child should die, may God have mercy on the one who refused it. St. Thomas, ON |
